After a grueling 3 day week at school, I got to go to the zoo with my family. Along with my host parents, 2 of my aunts came along with us, and my very cute baby cousin Sofia.
First, we got something to eat at a restaurant in the zoo. We ate some good Peruvian pollo a la brasa (rotisserie chicken), chauffa (fried rice), and babas fritas (French fries). I also ate a lot of chiffles, which are like potato chips, except they're made out of bananas. It sounds gross, but they're my favorite snack ever and it's the only thing I ever want. I was very happy, because I don't get them that often.
Before going, into the zoo I figured I would just end up seeing a bunch of animals I see in my backyard in the United States. But it wasn't like that at all. There were no "American" animals at this zoo, except for some alligators you might see in the swamp area. Other than that... nothing. I guess the people here aren't interested in our deer, squirrels, and other majestic creatures of the ever so popular Midwest.
There were some farm animals that are very common in the States, such as: pigs, sheep, ponies, rabbits, goats, and more. They even had a bull. In the farm animal area, there were also my favorite things in the world awaiting for me (if you don't know what it is, it's llamas). I was very saddened by the fact that the llamas and alpacas were so far away from where I could see them, so it's not like I could pet them or anything. That is the first and only time I have seen the native Peruvian animal, which is the very unfortunate part of living in a city 10 million people. I told my family that I like llamas and that they're my favorite animal, but I don't think they understand just how much I like llamas. And alpacas. I low-key like alpacas better, because they're fluffier, but llamas make themselves more memorable because they're sassier.
All of the animals at the zoo I could see at the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo, except for the fish. There was an aquarium full of all sorts of creatures from the Amazon region that I have never seen before. There were so many cool and just weird looking fish that I couldn't have even imagined before that. Oh... and some other reptiles... Once I realized that I was looking at the biggest snake I have ever seen, you bet I got the bleep out of there like, "NO ME GUSTA."
I was kind of surprised to see some of the animals they had there. There were tigers, lions, giraffes, and some other big animals. There were many river otters of many different sizes. I didn't really know before that there were so many types of river otters. I got a few videos of them being playful and silly, so I will have to figure out how to upload videos onto my blog.
Once we were done at the zoo, we went back to my aunt's house and I got to spend some more time with my family and see some of my other cousins there. By the end of the day, I was exhausted and very ready to go to bed when I got home. Overall, it was a great day. I got to get out and see some cool animals, eat some food, spend time with my family, and just have a good time.
