Right now I am on my way home from Chicago. Now you might be thinking, how nice, a little trip to Chicago before I leave right? No. I had to take a day to go to the Peruvian consulate to get my visa. It was crazy. I learned at the conference over the weekend that my visa I had applied for was no longer a valid way to obtain a visa in Peru since the laws had changed. It was a stressful mess, but now everything is taken care of and I have all of my legal work finished!
I was hoping to leave earlier than we did the morning so I could home earlier than I am going to now. I also thought it would be a much quicker process than it was. We got to the consulate, gave them some documents, left while they processed it, and came back with my visa all ready for me. While we were waiting, we went shopping. I went into Old Navy not planning on getting much, but I found a lot of good deals in the clearance section and went a little nuts… let’s just say I am definitely set in the clothes department for my exchange.
Today was going to be a big day since they organized an all day fast at church. It was something I very much wanted to be a part of and helped plan, but I wasn’t able to go because I had to get my visa. I should make it to youth group tonight though. It will be a little rough since this will be my last time there for a year, and my church and youth group means so much to me. They have been incredibly supportive of my exchange and help me with anything I need. The all day fast was something I needed since I haven’t taken any time recently to really sit down and give my time to God since I’ve been so busy. I remember the last time I went to youth group, and my youth pastor called me out during service and asked how God had been working in my life recently- and I couldn’t come up with an answer. That was a little light bulb moment of if I can’t see what God is doing in my life, I need to take a step back and focus more on Him. My faith is really the only thing I’m going to have with me when I go to Peru. Now the time has come where I need it most, and I intend to build up on it from this point; because as for things I will need within this next year- that’s it.
