After being in Peru for almost 2 months, I finally gave my presentation about myself to my Rotary club. When I first got here, I made an entire presentation and just waited for my club to tell me when I was going to do it. Then the week before, they told me I was going to do it. So what did I decide to do last minute now that I knew when I had to do it? Make an entirely new presentation. And when did I wait to do most of it? The night before I had to present it. In Spanish. But I at least started it well before then!
I practiced many times with my host family, just because this presentation had to be good. And I wanted them to understand what I was saying. Even the entire drive to the meeting, I just repeated my notecards. Even though I didn't actually make the notecards until about half an hour before we left the house...
Even though I brought everything I had together pretty last minute, I ended up having a pretty good presentation. I did it all in Spanish, had a good pace, and was able to just explain my entire life back in the US. Which I always like talking about. Sometimes. Just because most people don't really know what it's like living in the Midwest AT ALL, so it's sometimes hard for people of this gigantic city to understand what life is like. And that there is indeed life outside of every major US city. In fact, there's a whole hecking lot. But Rotarians and most Europeans (it's the same way in Western Europe as it is in the US with small towns) understand that the living outside of a big city doesn't mean I'm not living in the first world.
Even though I was kind of nervous, I got through my presentation and give my Rotary club an insight about myself. I had a great time with it!
