My Last Day in Lima

Even though I just switched host families, it's time that I switch again. Except this time I'm switching cities. Yep, I'm moving to AREQUIPA!

I had one day in between the time I got back from my Rotary trip (Jan. 25) and the day I left for Arequipa (Jan. 27). And I spent it well.

On the day we returned from the trip, my host mom was there at the airport to pick me up. We went from the airport and got some cremoladas, which is kind of like a snow cone but creamy. From there, we went home for a little bit until we had to go back to the airport to pick up Dorian who came back from the trip on a later flight. He's staying with my second family in Lima for the summer as I am staying with a different family in Arequipa for the summer.

Once we picked him up, we all went out to go eat some pollo a la braza, hands down my favorite Peruvian dish. It was Dorian, my host mom, my host sister Flavia and I. It was tasty, accompanied by some drinks too.

The next day was my one whole day I had to take advantage of in Lima before I left for 5 weeks. It also happened to be the first Show Choir Saturday of the year! So how did I at least spend the morning? Watching the show choir livestream and cheering on all of my show choir friends from 4000 miles away. They did so good and it made me so happy to see their shows for this year. I have a serious problem and obsession honestly, I'm going to have show choir to go back to next year and here I am having the one year of my life away from it all but I just couldn't.

Eventually I had to get out of bed and live for the day, and we had a great day with my host family before I left! We first went out for a little bit to go bowling, which was a lot of fun! And different because it's one of those fancier places that's more expensive. Not like the ancient Main Bowl in CC where it costs a dollar to rent a lane and another dollar to rent a pair of shoes. For bowling, I did not do too hot- I didn't get one strike. This was not my proudest moment in bowling terms. But to be fair, it had been probably 9 months at that point since the last time I had bowled. Everyone else did pretty good. My 9 year old host sister did her best, which was almost like throwing the ball. Where's computer emojis when you need them? That sentence just feels incomplete without the laughing-crying face emoji.

After bowling, we went out to eat at a Italian type restaurant. I had and avocado cheeseburger, and it was delicious. One of the best burgers I have had. It's one of those things where I was really sad when I was done eating it because it was gone.

We then went out and bought some ice cream, which was just the icing on the cake. After spending some time at home and eating ice cream with my host family, it was finally time that I got all of my things packed. All of my laundry had been drying during the day, so now I could finally pack. It took me a while. During this time, I was also making some plans with my friends to go out. It didn't seem like anything was going to happen until my friend Frezia texted me that she had found a party to go to. I knew that I had to leave the house at 4 the next morning (as in about 8 hours from that point) to get to the airport on time, so I should have been sleeping at that point. Was I going to spend my last night for a while sleeping or partying? Party.

It took me so long to get my bag packed and get ready that it wasn't until 10:30 that I finally left my house. And because my second host family lives on the northside of Lima, and all of my friends live on the southside of Lima, it took about an hour to get there by taxi. Finally around 11:30, I arrived at my friend, Camilla's, house. Her and Frezia were there ready to go. From there we went to the party!

We had a fun night together of dancing, but then we got bored. So we went out to Barranco for a little bit to walk around. From there we went back to the party to see if it got more fun. It really didn't, especially since there weren't many people there that we knew. But I had a great last night with my friends and was so happy that I got to see them one last time! I left to go back home around 2 am, and got back around 3 am. Really quickly I made sure I had all of my things around, and slept for about 40 minutes before we left at 4 am to the airport.

What. A. Night.

But I wouldn't change it!

Oh Fudge

Except I wasn't thinking fudge. In 24 hours I will be boarding a plane to go home. How will I pass these next 24 hours? The end is here....
