Lunahuana and White Water Rafting

As I've had the week off, my host parents came up with an activity we could do for a day. We took a day trip to a small tourist town in the Ica region called Lunahuana. Before coming here, I thought we were going to Paracas (also in the Ica region), but we went to Lunahuana instead. There is a river that flows through the area that is used a lot for white water rafting and other similar sports. We went to go white water rafting.

We left around 10 in the morning, which was a lot later than I expected. We took a stop in San Bartolo on the way there, which is a popular beach just outside of Lima. In total, it took about 3 and a half hours to get there. I slept a lot of the time. Once we got there, there were all kinds of people trying to sell stuff, especially services. The service being white water rafting.

Before long, we were on our way to a place where we'd meet up to go white water rafting. It was in the garage of whoever owned the place, and we took off from there to the water. They had us all decked out in gear before we got into the raft. So we then went white water rafting. And it was a lot of fun. I'm not going to lie, I felt like I was Pocahontas during "Just Around the Riverbend". Even though I looked like a total dad. I also got soaking wet. Water was coming and going everywhere, but it was still so much fun. I don't know how long we were doing it and going down the river, but I'm going to guess almost 20 minutes.

Once we got to the end along the riverbank, it was a little difficult to get out of the raft since we had to climb over a bunch of slippery rocks to actually get back up to land. We also had to walk for a while afterwards to get back to the garage place. There, we were able to get changed and ready to go eat lunch.

We afterwards went to a restaurant there and had an abundance of Peruvian food. We had some ceviche, which was very tasty, as well as what I believe was calamari. It was the toughest meat I'd ever eaten, but it was good.

After that, it was finally time to head home. It was a nice drive home, and I actually stayed awake the whole time just looking around, even though it got dark after about an hour. We left around 5 and got home around 8:30. I did not stay up too long after that- it had been a busy day. But it had also been a great day! It was a great experience that I'm so glad I got to have here.

Oh Fudge

Except I wasn't thinking fudge. In 24 hours I will be boarding a plane to go home. How will I pass these next 24 hours? The end is here....
