Friend-Filled Weekend

To say the least, I was very pleasantly surprised with how my weekend went.

It all started out on Saturday morning with weekly Spanish classes. Besides Spanish class, all of us exchange students also had a meeting that day to discuss our past and upcoming events and activities. Spanish class went as normal, meeting in our normal meeting place at the Santa Rosa Colegio of San Borja, and I learned a few things. After that, I left the school with my Spanish class group to a nearby mall called La Rambla. There, I hung out with my friend from Taiwan, Yoyo. We first got some ice cream at Pinkberry, despite it being only 11 in the morning. And it was delicious. We both got a new thing they just came out with called Bubble Waffles, and it was delicious. It's basically just a giant waffle with some ice cream and other toppings of choice. After that we just walked around the mall some and looked at clothes until it was time for us to head back to the school. The meeting between all of us exchange students was also going to be held at the school. The meeting was scheduled to start at noon and end at 1, but it didn't end up finally getting started until about 12:30. Which means we didn't end until about 1:30.

During the meeting, we first discussed our upcoming Talent Show/Christmas Program. What has been in the making for a while is now finally getting put into the works, and it seems like it will be a successful fundraiser for us all. Another small group of exchange students also had the opportunity to go to northern Peru for a service project together. The few of them were selected to go on a very isolated island in the Amazon and seek out the needs of the people in the community. They came back and presented their ideas to us and what they believed needed to be done based on their observations. As this year's group of exchange students here in Peru, we are all participating together to try and better the lives the people of this isolated community. That is what most of our upcoming fundraisers will be put towards. Based on the observations of the people who actually went to the island, this year we will be trying to provide solar panels and other useful resources to the community so they will have better educational sources. Our overall goal as group is to provide a way for the children of the island to receive a better education than what they're already getting. The education they're receiving right now is very basic, and they won't have many opportunities to get a better education than that. I will make a separate post going into all of the details of these people's lives and how we are striving to help.

Finally, the meeting came to an end, and I went home and took a lovely nap.

Later on, some of my classmates were discussing going to the movies. I asked my host dad, and he took me to the movie theatre so I could go meet my friends. Unfortunately, only my friend Dani ended up showing and the others were unable to come.

Daniela and I decided not to end up seeing the movies, and we ended up walking around the mall instead. We looked in some stores, and also went to Dunkin' Donuts for a late night snack. Soon, the mall was going to close. Because my host parents weren't responding to me and the bus station was also about to close, we took the bus back to military village where my Dani and most of my other friends live. This was the safest decision for us to make with it being late and everything closing. Once we got to her house to hang out, it was already late, so she asked her parents if I could stay the night, and they were fine with it. My host parents also gave me permission to stay the night, even though I didn't have anything with me. But it all worked out just fine.

After hanging out for a while at her house, we went to my friend Sebastian's house. At his house were also our friends Alonso, Alex, Alejandro, Fernanda, and Sebastian of course. We all just hung out together talking and listening to music, watching a movie. It was a good time to just hang out and chill. We were only there for about an hour before it was time for us to head back to her house. All of us walked together through the village and got to our homes safe and sound. Once we got back to her house, we were both very tired, and ended up going straight to bed.

The next morning, I got up and called my host parents first thing so they knew I was still alive. We had a very relaxing morning. I ate a delicious breakfast with her family consisting of Cuban rice. And chocolate milk, a staple. After that, we had what we call "SPANISH CLASSES WITH DANIELA" which is just us listening to a bunch of music in Spanish. Because I have to learn more Latino music and it's fun. That's what we did for most of the day other than just enjoying each other's company and hanging out.

I also ate lunch with her family, and we had the Peruvian favorite, ceviche. It was delicious. Everybody loves a good plate of tasty ceviche. Her parents also made some BBQ that we had later, and that was also delicious. Another friend from our class, Sandra, also came over so to work on homework together. Yes, I did my homework for once. And it ended up taking a long while. It was for music class, and we had to do a bunch of research on famous Peruvians artists and composers.

My host parents finally came and picked me up once we had finished our homework around 8 pm. It had been an amazing and fun weekend spent with friends. After all of that, I went to slept real well that night.
