Ok, I did more things to my hair.
I'm a changing person. So I changed my look up some more.
This was something I contemplated for a very long time, but was always too scared to do. I've had long hair the majority of my life, and did not like it the one time I had short hair. But that has been forever ago. And it was time for change- so this is what I came to.
I decided I was going to do it the day before, so it wasn't an impulse decision like dyeing my hair was. I asked some friends to come with me to make sure it got done, because I knew that if I went alone, I would chicken out and not go through with it.
It was a normal Saturday, I got up early and went to Spanish class. Then after class, my friend, Katalin, and I walked to the salon, which was much further away than I remembered. It was in a market, there's just many salons in this particular market. I asked the lady how much it would cost to cut my hair, and she told me 20 soles. It ended up being 120 soles with extra stuff I didn't ask for. Be careful kids, these people will rob you, especially if you're foreign.
Anyways, I sat in the chair, very unsure about what I was doing there. I was very happy Katalin came with me to keep me company and make me go through with it. I needed my cold German friend to sit me down and make me go through with it. I showed the lady a picture of the classic 90s Rachel Green haircut to giver her an idea, and she went from there. And I closed my eyes.
She used a buzzer to buzz the bottom of my hair of, and I just remember Katalin saying, "Oh my, that was a long piece of hair!" so of course I had to open my eyes. But it was all behind my shoulders so it didn't look much different. The rest of the time, I just sat and I watched her cut my hair, very relaxed.
Then she went to style my hair, and convinced me to do this hair botox because my hair was too dirty to style, which was true. I didn't think the extra cost would be 100 soles, but whatever. It was nice and it did make my hair look nicer.
While my little botox treatment was setting in, Katalin and I walked around the market. She wanted to get her hair dyed, but she wanted to look for a salon that would offer it for a cheaper price. She ended up just getting an undercut at the same salon.
So my hair got nice and styled, and it makes me look like a classic Midwest soccer mom, but that's fine. The hairstylist said it reminded her of Cameron Diaz. Either way, it makes me look older. But I liked it.
Another change. More things changing.
Getting a major haircut was very symbolic of change for me.
It was difficult to do, as change can be hard for me. I'm very adaptable (or else I wouldn't be on exchange) but making long term changes can be difficult. So it was hard to see myself different, but I think it speaks words for how much I really have changed since exchange.
All your beautiful hair on the floor. I think you look like Candace Cameron Burre. When are you going to start making Hallmark movies?
I just wish I would have recorded your mom's reaction two nights ago when I showed her the picture with your hair cut off, unfortunately I never think to do that until it's too late.
