It's the little things in life... like cheap, unhealthy, delicious Chinese food.
To follow a lazy Sunday afternoon that consisted of ironing my clothes and sleeping in, my family took me to a nearby Chinese restaurant for almuerzo. I was so excited because I had not had Chinese in forever and it is one of my favorite things. We almost went to a Chinese restaurant once before but it didn't end up happening, and I was pretty bummed. But it's ok, because now I've had Chinese food.
All I got was some sweet and sour chicken and chaufa, which is fried rice. It was so good and just made me so happy. It reminded me of the last time I had Peruvian chaufa, which was in Arequipa 2+ years ago. It's funny how food can do things like bring you back to those other times in life.
After we had Chinese, we went to the mall. Although we didn't do much of what I call shopping. First, they looked at cars, because they want to get a new car. While we were car shopping, I got in the front seat of one of the cars, and it somehow felt like I was driving. That is one thing I really do miss a lot. But no worries about those D's, because I absolutely DO NOT want to drive here. That would be an actual suicide mission in this traffic, especially for bad drivers like myself. After that, we went shopping in a kitchen ware store, and my parents ended up buying a new oven. We had to wait for probably 2 hours just sitting outside of the store because they were actually going to take it home- which was also an adventure. I didn't realize they were actually taking home the model in the store or what exactly we were waiting on for so long, but like normal, I just went with it. Then my host dad and my host brother came out of the store after a while carrying an oven. It was interesting getting that from the store, to the elevator, to the car, then up the 5 flights of stairs to the apartment once we got home. Even though it was a lot of work for them (I offered to help), my host mom loves her new oven and stove.
Maybe they'll make me some Chinese food on it...
I hope you're helping with the meals or dishes. You need to learn the recipes so you can make them when you come home.
